Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility

If your organization would like to invite Gadfly to give a talk, facilitate a workshop, or create training content on EDIA, please use the Contact Form to reach out!

Gadfly has experience speaking about the importance of EDIA and how embracing inclusive practices can improve our workplaces, classrooms, labs, and fieldwork. They recently earned their Certificate in Organizational Leadership in Diversity, Equity & Inclusion from Rice University. They have experience speaking to a wide range of audiences including academic conferences, non-profits, academic institutions, and scientific societies on the importance of EDIA principles and how to implement them in our work and daily lives. They have created EDIA training content for organizations such as the University of Toronto, and have contributed to EDIA-related workshops and reports for organizations such as Sea Grant, the Society for Canadian Aquatic Sciences, and the Upper Midwest Invasive Species Conference.

Gadfly also has experience facilitating workshops on EDIA with the goal of introducing participants to the topic, sharing current research on how EDIA principles improve our research and scientific practices, and invite participants to commit to achievable short and long-term goals for the future. Please read their latest co-authored publications on the importance of EDIA in aquatic sciences “Making aquatic sciences more diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible: Perspectives on how individuals can take action in their professional practice“, or their recent report on the facilitated workshop, “Applying Principles of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice and Accessibility (DEIJA) to Invasive Species Research, Management, and Engagement“, for the Upper Midwest Invasive Species Conference, held in November 2024 in Duluth, MN for an example of the potential deliverables resulting from such meaningful engagement.

Gadfly is a queer trans person with disabilities, who draws upon both their lived experiences and the skills and training they have gained through years of EDIA outreach and engagement. For a brief summary, Gadfly’s work has been profiled by his alma mater, Algoma University: Gadfly Stratton: Championing Scientific Inquiry and Social Responsibility from Algoma University to the Forefront of Environmental Research and Equity Advocacy
